XSProject is a design effort finding new ways of utilizing consumer waste to create fresh products, reduce trash and provide new livelihood opportunities for trash pickers and the very poor.
XSProject buys useless plastic packaging waste from Jakarta's trash pickers bringing them a much needed new income. Urban trash pickers throughout Southeast Asia comprise floating populations of undocumented, unskilled migrants living far below international poverty standards of less than US$1.00 a day.
XSProject's unique recycled products are made at small scale cottage industries and foundations providing sustainable income opportunities for those who have few. XSProject stimulates awareness of environmental degradation and compassion towards those living in poverty.
XSProject begins in the trash dump by re-examining waste left over from our consumer societies and finds INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS through CREATIVE DESIGN.
